The Academy Process
The process to establish an Academy is regulated by Government. Kent County Council's public consultation on the closure of The Astor of Hever Community School commenced on 9th November 2009 and closed on 21st December 2009. On 7th January 2010, KCC sought the views of the School Organisation Advisory Board on issuing a Public Notice. This will be issued later in January 2010, if agreed by Kent County Council Cabinet. To date, the Sponsor has completed an Expression of Interest document that provides an overview of the proposals for the new Academy. If you would like to read or download a full copy of the Expression of Interest, click here. The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has agreed that the proposal should enter the next phase, referred to as the Feasibility Stage. This includes wide consultation with staff, governors, parents, students, the local community, neighbouring schools and other interested parties' and subject to satisfactory progress leads to the Funding Agreement and DCSFapproval to undertake the Implementation planning for the new Academy. In November 2010 Ofsted would undertake a pre-opening inspection and, subject to satisfactory implementation progress, would approve to open the new Academy from January 2011.
